Watch video onlyOne candidate answers key questions in this video.
[1s] Who are you and why are standing?
[26s] I'm standing for re-election as the Conservative Councillor for Fair Oak and Horton Heath.
[31s] I've lived in Fair Oaks now for 23 years.
[33s] My wife, both our daughters, went to local schools.
[36s] We take part in local community projects.
[42s] and we're part of a local community.
[44s] It's been a pleasure and a privilege to spend three years representing the community in which we live.
[50s] I'd like to carry on doing the work I've been doing and spend another four years as your elected representative speaking up for you and doing things for
[59s] the local communities.
[60s] Hi, I'm Ben Parry, co-chair of Eastley Borough Green Party and candidate for The Green party for Fair Oak and Houghton Heath in the upcoming local election.
[71s] Why am I standing?
[72s] Well, for the same reasons I've said before, really.
[75s] Ferrick and Horton Heath has given me a great deal to me and my family who lived here for 16 years or so.
[80s] It would just be really nice to give back and to serve the people that I have come to call friends and community.
[98s] How would you make a difference locally?
[102s] Can a local councillor make a difference?
[105s] Well, I would like to think they can.
[107s] I'd certainly say if you're not trying to make difference, you probably shouldn't be a councilor.
[111s] Being a councillor isn't just about turning up for meetings and voting the way you are told before the meeting even starts.
[117s] It's about representing and speaking up to the people of your community.
[123s] Ferrog and Hordenheath is my community, and I've lived here for the better part of a quarter of century.
[128s] I think I know Farrokh and Haughton Heath, and I feel Farokh or Houghton-Heath know me.
[133s] Vote for me on the 2nd of May and you know what you're going to get.
[136s] You're gonna get someone who speaks up for you, does his best to represent you and works tirelessly to keep on doing the right thing for Farokh or Horton-heath.
[146s] Whether it's bins being emptied, grass being cut or speaking up against one Horton Heath.
[151s] That's what I'm here for.
[152s] I want to carry on, I've had three years, it has been a pleasure, a privilege to present you.
[158s] think i've earned your trust i think you know me well enough to know a vote for me on the 2nd of may gets your representative thank you i don't think it's
[167s] about making a difference i thing it is about improving what we have about preserving what have in this wonderful place here that we call ferrick and horton
[178s] heath i want to go on record as saying steve broomfield has done a great job at this level i dont strictly believe in party politics,
[186s] I believe people serving the best that they can for the people in their community.
[192s] And I just look to improve on great work that Steve's already done.
[197s] One last call, anything you'd like to say?
[201s] One Haughton Heath, £326,000 a month in debt repayments on a project to build housing on the floodplain of three streams on heavy clay soil.
[212s] Is it any wonder private developers walked away?
[215s] I'm the only non-Lib Dem Councillor on the Haughton Heath Development Management Committee.
[220s] The only person who keeps you informed of progress, or lack of, progress.
[224s] Who speaks up for you at meetings and represents your concerns and your problems.
[230s] Vote for me on 2nd May and I'll continue to do that.
[233s] No one else will.
[235s] As someone who's taught in local secondary schools and colleges for 16 years and set up a national business based in Eastley for the last five years,
[244s] I'm really confident that I have the qualities necessary to be a successful local councillor for you.
[251s] What I would also like to say is don't sit on the sidelines.
[257s] Don't moan.
[258s] The greatest enemy to democracy is apathy.
[263s] You have a voice.
[265s] Please use your vote and pick the best person for you in terms of who you think is best equipped to serve your local community.
Candidates are ordered by response time and participation status, not by when they speak in the recording. Those who took part could add optional final words.
