Eastleigh Borough residents are being given a New Year Boost by the Council which has launched its annual programme to help residents start 2021 by being active and making positive steps for their health.
New Year Boost offers beginner courses and the new weight loss programme are aimed at adults (16 years+) who are currently doing little to no exercise. All are social, supportive and safe activities to give residents that boost to feel and look healthier after an unsteady 2020.
This year, all activities are heavily subsidised to lessen financial barriers to residents in the Borough. The Council’s SportWorks team is also asking those who would like to take part but would struggle with the sign-up fees to get in touch.
Beginners courses are held in locations across the Borough by local sport and activity providers with starting dates throughout January 2021. They are made up of 4-14 weeks of sessions, paid in advance with one block booking payment, and cover football, martial arts, couch to 5k, boxing, weightlifting and badminton. All sessions are £2 per person, whereas the Man v Fat football league is only £1 (10% of the usual price) for the 14 weeks with New Year Boost.
The new partnership with the local small business, HELM, allows New Year Boost to offer a weight- loss programme in addition to the beginner courses. At an exclusive 50% discounted fee for residents, the ten-week programme supports participants to eat well, move more, lose weight and keep it off. It concentrates on sustainable tools for life and avoids one-off diets or short-term fixes. one-to-one sessions and group seminars create an online community to support each other to achieve up to ten pounds weight loss over the programme.
Bookings open Monday 14 December for beginners’ courses and Monday 4 January 2021 for the HELM weight loss programme. www.eastleigh.gov.uk/nyboost or by calling our Customer Service Centre 023 8068 8000.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Councillor Tonia Craig, said: “We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of residents in the Borough, especially after a difficult year. We are proud to heavily subsidise the New Year Boost programme to enable those with financial challenges, as result of the pandemic, to access these great opportunities”.
