Full transcript

[7s] Who are you and why are standing?

[10s] Hi, my name is Sukhdev Raj.

[12s] I've lived in Eastleigh for over 35 years.

[18s] I meet public on a daily basis and have great knowledge about the area.

[22s] I am passionate about this town and disappointed with the lack of investment from Eastleigh Borough Council.

[28s] This has led to shops being empty on the high street and also increases in parking charges has also deterred people from coming into the town.

[39s] Easily debt is currently over £650 million, with interest rates which are eye-watering.

[45s] Public services are compromised from poor management of public funds.

[50s] I will tackle this head on and hold them accountable.

[54s] Where in the borough should new homes go?

[56s] Name one place and one you would refuse.

[61s] New homes should be built on brownfield sites, taking careful consideration on the impact on local roads and infrastructure.

[69s] This is key to getting homes in the right places.

[73s] Would you increase council tax, cut it or keep it the same?

[77s] And what would that mean for residents?

[82s] I certainly wouldn't increase council tax.

[83s] It's already too high at the moment.

[86s] What would this mean for residents?

[89s] Well, for residence, firstly, I would renegotiate current contracts with our suppliers, get our prices down and manage our services better.

[99s] This is a clear indication that EC Borough Council has been lazy and not been effectively using public funds.

[106s] One last call.

[107s] Anything you'd like to say?

[110s] I'd like to say one last thing.

[112s] Eastley Borough Council needs real people with real business experience to successfully manage public funds and deliver services which the public are entitled to.

[125s] Given the clear transparency and accountability of the services that are provided.
